THE Governor Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has distanced himself from claims that he is linked to an alleged move to unseat the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh.
This comes after the Assembly, today, suspended four lawmakers accused of plotting to impeach the Speaker.
Those affected are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia dismissed the speculation, stressing that he has no role in any attempt to undermine the leadership of the House.
“The governor, Hyacinth Alia, is not aware of and has no involvement whatsoever in any purported attempt to remove the Speaker or in any activities currently taking place in the Benue State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
Kula emphasized that Governor Alia holds the legislature in high esteem and respects both the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.
He noted that the governor has consistently acted on resolutions forwarded by the Assembly, pointing to his swift implementation of recent decisions as proof of his cooperation.
The statement further added that Alia maintains a cordial working relationship with Speaker Dajoh and the House, and remains committed to supporting the Assembly in carrying out its legislative duties for the development of Benue State.
