Benzino has spoken out after Harlem rapper Jim Jones claimed he is a better rapper than Nas and that he also has a better music catalog.
“What I did for Nas probably never been done for him in his life. He’s never been that viral at all. Ever. Ever. He’s never been talked about like this ever in his life,” Jones said in a viral interview.
Jones claims that nobody plays Nas anymore and that he is irrelevant because he hasn’t gone viral in years.
“First time I heard Nas, I was in 10th, 11th grade. … Things have changed tremendously since Nas was hot in the ’90s,” Jones continued. “He had a smooth wave but it didn’t carry over the way that we seen other artists carry over that was supposed to be in his position.”
Benzino, the former co-owner of The Source, disagreed heavily with Jones’ take.
“Y’all are taking part in really ruining the legacy of this f–king man. This man has a whole f–king legacy. This Jim Jones Nas s–t wasn’t even a debate. Okay, it’s cute at first but it’s getting out of control. It’s getting way too disrespectful and it’s gonna cause irreparable damage to the culture,” he says in the clip.
