Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru is reportedly close to sealing a return to Turkey, with Süper Lig newcomers Kocaelispor leading the race for his signature, Soccernet.ng understands.

The 27-year-old winger, currently on the books of Saudi Arabian side Al-Fayha, is expected to depart the club this summer after a mixed spell marked by both highs and injuries.

Onyekuru joined Al-Fayha in 2023 for €3.2 million following a stint at Adana Demirspor but saw his second season largely derailed by fitness issues.

The move would see the Nigerian star return to a league where he previously enjoyed great success, particularly during his three loan spells with Galatasaray. His most memorable campaign came in 2018/19, when he helped Galatasaray secure a domestic double.

Although there were earlier links to Turkish giants Beşiktaş, including rumours of a meeting with club president Serdal Adalı, those claims have since been denied.

Now, Kocaelispor — fresh off their promotion to the top division for the first time in 16 years — appear poised to complete a surprise swoop for the winger.

Onyekuru’s contract with Al-Fayha is set to expire at the end of the season, making a transfer relatively straightforward. The former Everton man is said to be carefully weighing his options, with a move to Turkey likely to offer the perfect platform to revive his career.

Despite injury setbacks, Onyekuru made 38 appearances for Al-Fayha, registering 11 goals and three assists. However, only four of those outings came in the most recent campaign due to a long-term injury.

Kocaelispor’s interest signals intent to compete at the top level, and securing a player with Onyekuru’s pedigree could prove pivotal in their survival push.
