Big U told a federal judge that his health and legal defense are deteriorating after he was suddenly placed in restrictive housing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, where he says he has been denied basic medical equipment and access to key legal materials.
In a handwritten letter to U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha, which was viewed by AllHipHop, Big U said he was transferred to the Special Housing Unit on January 1 without warning. He claims jail staff confiscated his CPAP machine, which he relies on to breathe while sleeping.
“Put frankly, death can occur for those who require breathing machines when they sleep if they do not have one,” he wrote, adding that he has been afraid to fall asleep.
He also alleged officials failed to provide prescribed bedding, eyeglasses, and other accommodations, worsening ongoing injuries. Big U said his ability to prepare for his racketeering case has been severely compromised, claiming staff took a USB drive containing discovery materials and never properly logged it. “To my knowledge, the USB and those legal materials were not inventoried,” he wrote.
Big U also slammed jail officials who prevented him from attending a private viewing for his son, who was fatally shot last year, despite a court order permitting it. “I will never have that opportunity again,” he wrote.
Big U has pleaded not guilty to federal charges alleging ties to the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips. His trial is scheduled for May 2026.
