A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has called for the creation of Adada State in the South-East.

He made the request on Monday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television.

He was reacting to renewed calls for the creation of an additional state in the South-East.

Naijaonpoint recalls that Delta North Senator, Ned Nwoko, had stated that creating another state would bring peace to the region.

Reacting, the Nollywood veteran and lawyer said: “The bill seeking to create a state in the South East is a long-overdue act of fairness, equity, and justice.

“The South East should take this opportunity to adopt a consolidated, peaceful approach to selecting one state among themselves, specifically, Adada State, with its capital in Nsukka.”

He also added: “Additionally, Nigeria must redesign its revenue-sharing formula to encourage productivity rather than consumption.”

Okonkwo, also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of employing intimidation tactics to destabilise opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“ADC is on fire. The only thing is that we have an APC that is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” Okonkwo said.

The former Labour Party spokesman alleged that ADC gatherings in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti States had been disrupted by thugs, allegedly working under the supervision or protection of security operatives.

He described the incidents as part of a broader strategy by the ruling party to weaken and silence opposition voices ahead of the next general election.

“There have been repeated attacks on our meetings across states,” Okonkwo said.

“It is unfortunate that security agencies, who should protect all political actors equally, are being used to frustrate the opposition.”

Okonkwo faulted what he described as the manipulation of state institutions to the advantage of the APC, arguing that such practices violate the spirit of the Electoral Act, which guarantees equal protection and freedom of political association for all parties.

“The APC is using every arm of government to frustrate others. It’s against the provisions of the Electoral Act that every political party should enjoy equal protection,” he said.

Okonkwo stressed that the continued use of intimidation and suppression by the ruling party reflects desperation and fear of losing power in 2027.

Despite the alleged attacks, Okonkwo expressed optimism that the ADC would emerge victorious in the next general elections, insisting that the APC is already falling apart internally.

“ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are strategizing, and we are going to beat this APC,” he declared.

“They are already imploding because all these endorsements are just an amalgamation of sycophants.”

Okonkwo urged Nigerians to remain resilient and to support political parties committed to transparency, justice, and true democratic reform.
