Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas shared a harrowing experience of how armed men attacked her and Funke Akindele while they were filming Omo Ghetto.
The incident occurred late at night and left both actresses deeply shaken. In an interview on the With Chude podcast, Thomas explained that the attack took place around midnight when they heard loud banging and shouts of “Ole! Ole!” (meaning “Thief! Thief!”).
Initially, they checked through the window but saw nothing suspicious. In a panic, they attempted to move a bed to barricade themselves, but it was ineffective in hiding Akindele.
Thomas then suggested that Akindele hide under her gown while they both knelt to pray.
She recalled that others in the room, including a masseuse, joined them in intense prayer as the attackers continued to try to break in.
Eventually, the armed men forced their way into the room and demanded, “Funke da?” indicating that Akindele was their target.
When one of the robbers threatened to shoot if Akindele did not come out, she revealed herself from hiding. The men ordered Akindele to remove her clothes and dragged her outside, instructing her to lead them to her car.
Thomas described the remaining people in the room as trembling and terrified, uncertain of what would happen next.
She recalled hearing Akindele singing “Emi omo ghetto, I was born in the ghetto,” as the attackers allegedly forced her to sing and dance.
Shortly after, gunshots rang out.
Fortunately, Akindele managed to escape by running towards the generator area, where an injured security guard provided her with a towel to wrap herself in, bringing a terrifying ordeal to an end.
