Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, has openly criticised the call by some Muslim groups for female students in Christian mission schools to be allowed to wear the hijab.
Speaking during a church service, Oyedepo described the demand as “overstepping boundaries,” likening it to “a tenant decreeing for the landlord.” He insisted that mission schools should not be forced to alter their long-standing rules to accommodate such requests.
The cleric urged those pushing for the hijab policy to instead establish their own schools where it could be freely practiced. “Leave the schools for the owners,” he declared, warning that harassment of the church could provoke divine judgment.
This is a nasty development in Kwara State. Muslims are asking for their students in our schools to wear hijab, and the church said no. I’ve never seen such before,” Oyedepo said. “God is not a toy. He is a consuming fire. Let’s show them the consuming fire part of God.
He further cautioned that when God “turns His back on any system,” that system becomes grounded and cursed.
During the service, Oyedepo also prayed against ritual killings, kidnappings, and the destruction of farmlands, calling on God to judge those behind such acts. “Let judgment come down on ritual killers, kidnappers, and those destroying the labour of people’s hands,” he declared.
The bishop urged Christians to stay prayerful and resolute in defending their faith, warning against complacency in the face of what he described as targeted harassment.
