A middle-aged man identified as Abdulhamid Deflowerboy has been reportedly arrested for his alleged defamation of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, through a series of online publications.
According to reports, Deflowerboy was invited for questioning by the police after he was alleged to have authored defamatory content against the governor.
Naijaonpoint understands that his invitation led to a formal arraignment and subsequent remand by the court.
In reaction to the development, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the government’s involvement in the case and insisted that the matter is being pursued strictly within the bounds of the law.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the state government followed due legal process by petitioning the Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter and invite the individual in question to prove his allegations,” The Nation quoted Fanwo as stating in a press release.
He added, “Upon invitation, Abdulhamid (Deflowerboy) voluntarily appeared before law enforcement agents and confessed to being the author of the defamatory publication. He was thereafter charged to court and remanded by a competent court of jurisdiction.”
The commissioner debunked social media claims suggesting that Deflowerboy was being detained without trial, calling such claims false, baseless, and intended to mislead the public.
“Defamation is a criminal offence in Nigeria, not an expression of free speech,” Fanwo emphasised.
“It has the potential to destroy reputations built over decades and plunge innocent individuals into disrepute.”
Fanwo alleged that the blogger was sponsored by political detractors unhappy with the current administration’s direction and reforms.
“Sadly, Abdulhamid allowed himself to be used by disgruntled political elements who remain bitter over Governor Ododo’s bold decision to prioritise the welfare of the people above the personal interests of a few,” he said.
“These individuals, who once benefited from politics of patronage, now struggle to accept the new era of governance where public funds are used for public good.”
The commissioner also took the opportunity to reiterate the Ododo-led administration’s commitment to development across the state.
“This administration, under His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has earned the trust of the people through massive investments in road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, and civil service welfare,” Fanwo noted.
He cited ongoing projects in erosion control, electricity, school infrastructure, and pensioner support as evidence of the administration’s dedication to inclusive development.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings on the matter are expected to continue as the state government vows to see the case to its conclusion through the court system, Naijaonpoint reports.
