A former bodyguard for late athlete O.J. Simpson is claiming to be in possession of a tape of Simpson’s confessing to murder.

Simpson was acquitted of the 1994 double murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and the recording of his alleged confession is reportedly on a thumb drive previously held by the bodyguard, Iroc Avelli, but now in the possession of Bloomington Police Department.

TMZ reported, “Our law enforcement sources say the thumb drive in question was tied up in ongoing litigation … with Avelli and his lawyer suing the Minnesota cops to get back all his seized items — however, in July, a judge denied a motion to return the belongings. So, as it stands, the drive is in Bloomington PD’s custody, but we don’t know if they’ve dug into what’s on it … or whether they’ve shared any info with LAPD.”

Law enforcement says there is nothing to see here.

Speaking to KARE 11, Bloomington PD confirms arresting Avelli on assault charges in March 2022 and that they did find a thumb drive in his backpack but say that after “reviewing detectives did not locate any information of evidentiary value for the (Los) Angeles Police Department.”

Simpson died in April 2024. Before his death, he had been battling cancer and had been in hospice.
