Boko Haram Attack: Borno CP Commends Officers, Condoles Families Of Fallen Heroes

The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, on Thursday visited the Nganzai Police Division following an attempted attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists that claimed the lives of two police officers.

The visit, disclosed in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, highlighted the resilience of the officers in repelling the attackers and the tragic loss of their colleagues.

According to the statement, the attack occurred at approximately 12:10 am on January 9, 2025.

“Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division. Gallant officers on watch repelled the terrorists after a series of exchanges in a gun battle,” the statement read.

The assailants reportedly threw hand grenades, one of which landed on a shelter tent behind the police division, fatally wounding two officers.

During his visit to the scene, CP Lawal assessed the situation and commended the officers for their bravery in preventing further damage.

“Two hand grenades were recovered by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) – CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the State General Hospital Maiduguri,” the statement added.

The Commissioner extended his condolences to the families of the fallen officers and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.

“The Command remains dedicated and committed to ensuring safety and security for all. We call for calm as normalcy has been restored,” CP Lawal assured.
