Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least five people, including a pastor of the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), during a deadly raid on Tarfa village, in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the armed attackers stormed the community on Thursday evening, unleashing mayhem and setting homes ablaze, leaving the once-peaceful village in ruins.
Sources told Sahara Reporters that the insurgents, riding on motorcycles, arrived around 7 pm, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee into surrounding bushes.
“They came en masse and started burning houses and shops. People ran for their lives,” a fleeing resident recounted.
Eyewitnesses said the terrorists operated unchallenged for over an hour, torching homes and shops without any intervention from security operatives.
Confirming the attack on Friday, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, Most Rev. John Bakeni, said five people, including the EYN pastor serving the community, were killed in the assault.
“Truly, there was an attack yesterday evening in a village called Tarfa. I was informed that five people were killed, including the EYN pastor there. The entire village was burnt down,” Bakeni told journalists.
One source identified the slain pastor as Evangelist Musa Umoru, appealing for urgent government intervention to protect surviving residents, many of whom have fled the area in fear.
“We are under constant fear. Five people were killed, including Pastor Musa Umoru. As I speak, I have fled Tarfa. We need urgent government intervention,” the source said.
The attack has left many residents displaced, with the village reportedly reduced to ashes. Survivors now fear further attacks if security forces are not deployed to the region promptly.
