BORNO: Boko Haram raid military camp, kills soldiers

Islamic State fighters on Saturday launched a devastating attack on a Nigerian military camp in Kareto, Borno State.

The assault resulted in multiple casualties and significant material losses.

Military sources disclosed that the attackers used a variety of weapons, including a suicide car bomb, leading to violent clashes with army forces.

The attackers destroyed a military vehicle and forced some soldiers to flee. Reports indicate that about 20 soldiers were killed.

The attackers seized control of the camp, burned it, and destroyed 14 vehicles. They also captured four four-wheel drive vehicles and several weapons, including heavy machine guns, before retreating.

Borno State Government Reacts

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State condemned the attack, describing it as a harsh reminder of the brutality of Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, Governor Zulum expressed condolences to the armed forces and the families of the deceased:

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the armed forces and the bereaved families. May Allah rest their souls and grant fortitude to their loved ones.”

Governor Zulum noted that the attack would not derail efforts to resettle displaced persons in northern Borno.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with federal agencies to ensure peace and development.

The Governor commended the armed forces for their sacrifices, saying:
“We are deeply grateful to our military and security agencies for safeguarding lives and property. The Kareto attack underscores the adversary’s desperation to disrupt our progress. I urge our people to remain steadfast and support the armed forces.”

Governor Zulum assured residents that his administration would continue to work closely with the armed forces to enhance security and foster development in Borno State.
