Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has donated ₦100 million to the Borno State government for flood victims.

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate also promised to support the full rebuilding of Maiduguri and other parts of Borno affected by the flood.

Speaking to Governor Babagana Zulum, on Sunday, Atiku said what happened was a monumental disaster that required the assistance of everyone.

He said, “The purpose of our visit has already been announced by the Master of Ceremony. I want to let you know that whatever affects Borno, as he said, also affects me. It is in that capacity therefore, the Excellency, that we have come here with my delegation, as mentioned or announced, to commensurate with you, the government and the good people of Borno State.

“This is a monumental disaster that has not been witnessed before in the history of this state. Therefore, we want to let you know that you are not alone in this sad event which led to the loss of thousands of lives and to offer our deepest condolences to the door of those who have died.

“Of course, it is a time of rebuilding because that is what follows immediately after such disasters. And you are not alone in that. We want to let you know that we are all partners as well as the rebuilding of Maiduguri and Borno State in general.

“Therefore, I want to announce my own contribution to the rebuilding of Borno State to the tune of ₦100 million. And we will appreciate details of where that money can be paid into. And of course, and finally, we pray with repose for the souls of those who have died. In the name of the Almighty Allah, the Great. Eternal rest and peace.”

Also, on his X handle, on Sunday evening, Atiku wrote: “I commiserate with the government and people of Borno State over the catastrophic flooding that led to the tragic loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes. You are not alone in this difficult time, and I, on behalf of my family, pledge my full support towards the rebuilding efforts.”
