WATCH THE VIDEO HERE GOVERNOR Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved the payment of N8 billion to address outstanding pensions and gratuities for retired primary school teachers and other government workers. The announcement was made yesterday at the council chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri. The N8 billion will cover liabilities accrued between 2019 and 2021. Earlier payments include N3 billion released in June and September 2019 for 1,684 retirees who left service between 2013 and 2019, and over N12 billion disbursed in 2020 for retirees who exited between 2013 and 2017. Governor Zulum noted that his administration has paid approximately N25 billion in gratuities since assuming office in 2019. Governor Zulum also assured the public that the backlog of pensions and gratuities would be cleared before the end of his tenure in 2027. “Insh’Allah, I will settle all outstanding gratuities before leaving office,” he said.
