BORNO: Gov Zulum returns to Marte to reinforce peace efforts after insurgency

The visit marked his second stop in Marte within a week, following an overnight stay last Saturday.

Since then, Governor Zulum has toured nine conflict-affected communities including Kala-Balge, Wulgo, Ngala, Lugumani, Gajibo, Koibe, Dikwa, and Ajiri, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to peacebuilding and recovery.

During his visit, Zulum held a closed-door session with military commanders to review ongoing efforts aimed at restoring security and supporting recently resettled residents.

“I’m here to evaluate how effective the recent resettlement has been. I’m pleased to see that the community is returning to life—residents are back, soldiers are stationed, and normal business activities have resumed in Marte,” Zulum said.

He expressed optimism about the return of stability, adding, “Insha Allah, full normalcy will soon be restored.”

The governor was accompanied by several top government officials, including House of Representatives member Engr. Bukar Talba (representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai), Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs Sugun Mai Mele, Commissioner for Agriculture Engr. Bawu Musami, and the Permanent Secretary of the Government House, Barr. Mustapha Ali Busuguma.

Earlier in the week, Zulum had urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to prevent Marte from falling into the hands of Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents.

Speaking from Marte yesterday, he commended both the federal authorities and the military for their prompt response to his appeal.

“The Federal Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces acted quickly to reinforce security here. We’ve witnessed the deployment of troops and essential equipment. Their cooperation has been critical,” the governor stated.

He also extended gratitude to all stakeholders working toward peace, noting that their combined efforts are essential in restoring normalcy to the region.
