OPERATIVES of the Borno State Police Command have uncovered a concealed stockpile of 912 rounds of B32 API (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.
Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the ammunition has been secured and investigations are ongoing to determine its source and intended purpose.
According to the statement, the discovery followed actionable intelligence received on January 4, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m.
The Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division subsequently led a team of operatives to the location, where the hidden cache was found.
Daso explained that in line with standard procedures, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was immediately deployed.
The area was professionally cordoned off, allowing for the safe recovery of all 912 rounds of ammunition.
He added that efforts are underway to trace those behind the cache and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information, reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.
He also urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
The troops of Operation Hadin Kai recovered 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, including live rounds and warheads, concealed in a drainage in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri.
