BORNO: Seven dead, many injured in explosion

The blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists on the abandoned and deteriorated road that cuts through the Sambisa forest.

Eyewitnesses report that the explosion occurred today as a military-escorted convoy was transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri. Several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.

The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, a key link between Maiduguri and southern Borno local government areas, has long been a hotspot for Boko Haram activity.

Previously closed to civilian movement due to security concerns, the road was reopened under the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum. Since then, military convoys have been providing security escorts for travelers twice weekly, following routine IED sweeps.

The injured victims have been taken to a hospital in Maiduguri for urgent medical care, although the exact number of those wounded remains unknown.
