This comes after a news report suggested Idris dismissed Zulum’s concerns about renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in Borno State. Zulum had highlighted the resurgence of Boko Haram activities during a meeting with security forces in Maiduguri, citing little pushback from security forces. He emphasized the need for collaboration between the state government, military, and paramilitary to avert the looming situation. Idris’ office swiftly denied the reports, stating that the minister never said, “Ignore Zulum, Boko Haram is not taking over Borno.” The denial described the headlines as “sensational” and “deliberately crafted” to misinform the public. However, Zulum maintained his stance, saying, “I believe he is naive of what is happening in the country; he doesn’t know what is ongoing in the country.” The governor assured the public that his administration is committed to tackling the insurgency, having met with service chiefs in Abuja and receiving assurances of support. Zulum said, “Under my watch, Boko Haram will not have the capacity to do what they did before. We shall do everything possible to curtail them. The Government of Borno State will provide more support to the Nigerian army.” He also promised to strengthen the resilience of civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and vigilantes.
