Brandon Sanderson‘s favorite video game of all time is Sid Meier’s Civilization 6, and there’s never been a better time to buy into the strategy titan. While many of Sanderson’s favorite games predictably fall into the fantasy category, his interests ultimately aren’t that narrow. Sanderson is far from the only massive fan of Civilization 6, which does a lot to earn the affection of its acolytes.
Humble is currently selling Steam and Epic Games keys for Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 at a 90% discount, bringing the price down to $5.99. This deal doesn’t include the Gathering Storm or Rise and Fall expansions, but the base version of Civilization 6 is still more feature-rich than the base version of Civ 5. Humble Choice subscribers may also be able to apply additional discounts or receive credit back on the purchase.
Civ 6 Is Brandon Sanderson’s Favorite Game Of All Time
The Ultimate In 4X Strategy
Brandon Sanderson explained his love for Civilization 6 in a YouTube video discussing his favorite games, which builds up to a reveal of the strategy game in the number one spot. He argues that the Civilization series had to take the crown “by sheer weight of gameplay time,” citing his experience getting hooked on every successive release. It edges out some fearsome competitors, including Bloodborne and Halo 2.
Sanderson acknowledges that Civ 4 remains a fan-favorite, but makes the case for the unstacked units of Civ 5 and complex cities of Civ 6 as substantial improvements. More recently, Sanderson also discussed the contentious Civ 7 in another YouTube video, which he found interesting in theory but fell off of much more quickly.
Civ 6 Is 90% Off On Humble Bundle For A Few More Days
There’s Still Some Time To Catch This Deal
The Civ 6 discount on Humble is part of a large-scale Black Friday sale, but the deals won’t last forever. As of this article’s publication, you’ll have about five more days to grab the game before it returns to its regular price. That being said, Civ games go on sale with relative frequency, so this 90% off doorbuster won’t be the last opportunity to take advantage of some kind of discount.
I remain partial to Civ 4 and 5 Complete (and I’m even a fan of 7‘s radical overhaul, warts and all), but Brandon Sanderson‘s absolutely right about Civilization 6 being a great strategy game. If you’ve never played a Civ game before, though, heed his note about their addictive quality. Once “one more turn” sets in, the passage of hours starts to feel like minutes. It’s dangerous stuff.
