Details have emerged revealing that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has extended the controversial allocation of lands in Abuja to include his father, siblings, cousins, nephews, and other close associates, barely weeks after reports surfaced that he awarded multi-billion-naira lands to his sons.
Despite widespread criticism over the earlier allocations—reported to include 2,082 hectares to one son through JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited and 1,740 hectares to another son, Jordan—Wike is said to have proceeded with further land disbursements.
It is understood that following the backlash which accompanied earlier disbursements, the minister summoned a meeting of senior officials at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), where he expressed displeasure over media reactions to his actions.
“The minister said he was pissed that the media was making an issue of his decision to allocate lands to his children,” an official present at the meeting disclosed. “So he decided to expand his inventory of beneficiaries.”
At the meeting, which reportedly held in early July, Wike handed over a list of 38 names—including childhood friends and extended family members—for expedited land approvals. Initially perceived as a joke by some bureaucrats, the minister went on to sign off on multiple approvals within days.
“We thought it was a prank and assumed among ourselves that he wouldn’t be that reckless,” another senior official said. “Then he started actually signing the rights of occupancy for the allotments days later.”
Documents reviewed show that on July 16, 2025, Wike approved 33 new land allocations. Among the beneficiaries was his 90-year-old father, Joshua Nlemanya Wike, who received 1,042 square metres in Guzape II, valued at over ₦400 million, under file number 62783.
Other relatives granted land on the same day include Believe Wike (cousin), Victor Wike (nephew), Henry Wike (nephew), and Primise Wike (cousin). All 33 names on the July 4 list were reportedly from Wike’s native Rivers State, including eight family members of longtime ally James Hunwo.
These new allocations are in addition to six family members who had earlier received parcels of land in Guzape II on April 22, 2025. They include Vincent Ejike Wike, Chidi Sam Wike, Chituru Wike, Christian Ibebulachi Wike, Collins Ngeme Wike, and Emmanuel Okanwene Wike—believed to be the minister’s brothers and sisters.
Their allocations ranged from 2,158 to 2,813 square metres, with file numbers RV62586 to RV62605, according to official records.
Multiple FCTA officials confirmed that Wike had frequently bypassed statutory requirements, issuing verbal orders that allowed his relatives and associates to receive land grants without paying legally mandated fees.
“He rules this place like someone who does not believe in accountability,” said one senior civil servant. “He just doesn’t see himself being asked to render accounts someday.”
Officials also allege that Wike regularly boasts about his role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 election, particularly his influence in Rivers State where Tinubu secured an unexpected win despite the region’s traditional opposition leanings.
“He keeps reminding us of how he made heavy investment to help the president in 2023,” an aide revealed. “He even said the president can’t do anything to him, and no judge in 2025 Nigeria would dare convict him of any stupid corruption.”
Wike is widely believed to have played a pivotal role in securing Tinubu’s controversial electoral victory in Rivers State during the 2023 presidential elections—an outcome many observers claim was manipulated in favour of the ruling party candidate, despite Tinubu’s below-average popularity in the South-South state.
