The Benue State House of Assembly has announced a significant shake-up in its leadership, dissolving its former principal officers and appointing new lawmakers to strategic positions.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 11, 2025, by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Zape Michael Upaa, the Assembly confirmed that Thomas Dugeri has emerged as the new Majority Leader, while Abraham Jabi takes over as Deputy Majority Leader.

Other appointments include Cyril Ikong as Majority Chief Whip and Simon Gabo as Deputy Majority Whip.

On the minority bench, the Assembly named Abu Umoro as the new Minority Leader, with Cephase Dyako appointed as Deputy Minority Leader.

Similarly, Samuel Jiji has been assigned as Minority Whip, while Moses Egbodo will serve as Deputy Minority Whip.

The statement added that further information on the reorganisation and its implications for the Assembly’s legislative agenda would be communicated in due course.

Naijaonpoint understands that these appointments follow the lawmaker representing Makurdi North Constituency, Alfred Emberga, being appointed as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

He emerged at an emergency plenary session by the Benue State House of Assembly on Sunday, August 24, 2025, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Lami Ogenyi.

Emberga was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly after taking the oath of office administered by the Clerk of the House, John Hwande.
