The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended its immediate past Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, for three months over allegations that he attempted to orchestrate the impeachment of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The decision followed a motion raised by Terna Shimawua, representing Kyan Constituency, and seconded by James Umoru of Apa Constituency.

Shimawua was among the lawmakers suspended by Dajoh just last week, shortly before the latter stepped down as Speaker.

Presiding Speaker Alfred Berger ruled in favour of the suspension but reduced the initial recommendation from six months to three months. Unlike previous cases, the resolution was adopted without a formal vote.

The Assembly reversed its earlier stance and confirmed the nomination of Timothy Yangien Ornguga as Commissioner.
