BREAKING:  CBN’s MPC hold interest rate at 27.5% amid drop in inflation rate

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on Tuesday sustained interest rate or Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 27.50 per cent amid slowdown in Nigeria’s inflation rate.

After the two-day meeting in Abuja, the members also voted to  retain the asymmetric corridor at +500basis points/-100basis points. 

Nigeria’s inflation rate dropped to 22.22per cent as of June 2025, from 22.97per cent in May 2025, according to Consumer Price Index (CPI) report by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In addition, the MPC members retained the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) for Deposit Money Banks at 50per cent and Merchant Banks at 16 per cent and retained liquidity rate at 30per cent.

The interest rate has remained flat at 27.50per cent since 2024 as the CBN sustained its monetary policy to stablize inflation and Naira at the foreign exchange market.
