A major outage at Cloudflare, a leading global internet security and infrastructure provider, caused widespread disruption to online services on Tuesday, affecting major platforms such as ChatGPT and X (formerly Twitter).
Cloudflare confirmed it was investigating a network issue leading to widespread “500 errors,” with its own dashboard and API also experiencing failures. The disruption triggered accessibility problems across multiple websites that rely on Cloudflare’s systems for security and traffic routing.
The outage was linked to what Cloudflare described as internal service degradation and an unusual spike in traffic. In some regions, the company temporarily disabled parts of its network to stabilize service.
While Cloudflare reported partial recovery of some services, millions of users across different countries experienced difficulties accessing affected platforms. Many websites intermittently returned error pages or failed to load entirely.
Cloudflare has not yet disclosed a full technical breakdown of the incident, and monitoring services warn that sporadic outages may continue as recovery efforts progress.
