The Rivers State High Court has issued a restraining order against the Chief Judge of Rivers State and the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, preventing them from dealing with 27 lawmakers loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike.
This effectively blocks any attempts to impeach Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
Justice D. Jumbo Stephens delivered the ruling on Monday in response to an ex-parte order filed by the Attorney-General of Rivers State and Governor Fubara.
The suit lists Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers, as well as the Chief Judge, Clerk, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as defendants.
The court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending a hearing on the motion for interlocutory injunction. Specifically, the court restrained the Chief Judge and Clerk from receiving or acting on any resolutions or impeachment articles from the 27 lawmakers.
The court also directed substituted service of the originating processes on the defendants by pasting them at the gate of the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters.
The matter has been adjourned until July 15th for further hearing.
