WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, in connection with an alleged N700 billion fraud. The former governor reportedly arrived at the main office of the EFCC in Abuja at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, in response to an invitation from the anti-corruption agency. The arrest is reportedly linked to a petition filed by a civil society organization, the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking, which alleged that Emmanuel had misappropriated state funds totalling N700 billion during his tenure as governor. A source within the EFCC confirmed the arrest, stating, “We have arrested the former governor of Akwa Ibom over an alleged N700 billion fraud. “A civil society organisation called the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking petitioned the EFCC, prompting our investigation.” Emmanuel, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) served as governor from 2015 to 2023.
