BREAKING: Ex-Nigerian banker emerges best student of UK varsity

Mrs Rosemary Nneka Nagberi, a former Nigerian banker from Delta State has emerged as the best overall student in MSc Social Innovation from the Department of Management, Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, United Kingdom.

NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports Mrs Nagberi, an ex-staff of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc in Asaba, hails from Idumudje-Uno, Aniocha North local Government of Delta and is married to an Ijaw man, Mr Stephen Nagberi, from Patani LGA, also in Delta State.

The 2004 graduate of the Delta State University, Abraka, was conferred with her Master of Science in Social Innovation degree on Thursday during the university’s graduation ceremony when the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Zara Mohammed was conferred with a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws.

Nagberi served in Kano for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and joined UBA in 2006. She served as a bank Operations Manager in one of the UBA branches in Asaba and also holds an MBA from Bayero University Kano in 2010.

Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain conferred with Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws

Meanwhile, during the graduation ceremony a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws was conferred on the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Zara Mohammed, the first woman and first Scot to lead the organisation.

A former Assistant Secretary-General of the organisation, which represents mosques, Islamic schools and Muslim associations across the country, Zara was elected Secretary-General in 2021 at just 29, the youngest person to lead the Council. She was re-elected to the role last year.

Zara has a Bachelor of Laws in Human Rights Law from Strathclyde University, which named her its Alumnus of the Year in 2023.

In 2016, she became the first woman to lead the Federation of Student Islamic Societies, an umbrella organisation supporting and representing Islamic societies at higher education institutions in the UK and Ireland.

Glasgow-born Zara is passionate about creating an inclusive, diverse and representative Muslim Council for Britain.

She has joined public consultations on issues including Muslim women and employment and Islamophobia, and speaks at events across the UK and in Ireland. I

Zara is passionate about empowering young people and women in her community and hopes her success will in turn inspire them to aspire to leadership roles.
