BREAKING: FG begins payment of N77k arrears for outgone NYSC corps members

The Federal Government has commenced of payment of the backlog of the new N77,000 monthly allowance for outgone members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Recall that in September 2024, the government raised the monthly allowance for NYSC members from N33,000 to N77,000, noting the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 as the basis for the increase.

However, the new allowance only took effect in March 2025, leaving many corps members who had completed their service prior to this date eligible for arrears.

But, despite circulating rumors that these former corps members might miss out on the arrears, the government promised that all qualified corps member will receive their due benefits regardless of their current service status.

Meanwhile, the government seems to have fulfilled its promise of paying the arrears as many of the outgone corps members took to thier handles on social media to share the news.

Mary Joe sharing alert of the arrear wrote; “This is So Amazing I didn’t see it coming. Federal government made a promise and seek to it… Guys I just received my Arrears,so if you’re an ex Corper from Batch A1 2024 check your alert…”

Engr Saleesu Sb on Facebook said; “I just received 44k in my Globus account. 2024 A1. Is like arrears don dey drop.”

Lumex Philemon, also in a comment section on Facebook said; “Plateau Ex coorper batch A stream 2. Receive mine.”

The backlog being processed is only N44,000 – which appears to cover only one month. It is unclear whether the payments will continue monthly, since most members are actually owed about three months’ worth of arrears.
