The Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal case filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations linked to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Court filings show that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation moved to end the prosecution, bringing the matter to a sudden halt.
The decision was formally communicated to the Federal High Court through a notice of discontinuance dated December 12, 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan represents Kogi Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
She had been facing criminal defamation and cyberbullying charges following comments she made during a television interview.
The case was tied to statements made on “Politics Today”, a programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye. During the interview, the senator alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello were involved in a plot to eliminate her.
Following the broadcast, petitions were submitted to authorities by Akpabio and Bello.
These petitions triggered the criminal charges against the senator, despite her earlier claims that she had written to the Inspector General of Police to report threats to her life.
Instead of acting on her complaint, the authorities later arraigned her in court, accusing her of making defamatory statements and engaging in online harassment by publicly raising the allegations.
Several high-profile individuals were listed as witnesses in the case. They included Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, Ambassador Reno Omokri, and Sandra Duru.
The withdrawn charge is one of two criminal cases filed by the Federal Government against the Kogi lawmaker. The second case is still pending and is expected to come up in court on Monday. There are indications it may also be discontinued.
It was gathered that both cases were initiated by the Federal Government and not by Akpabio in his personal capacity.
The development comes shortly after the Senate President publicly declared his intention to withdraw all legal actions he instituted against individuals over alleged defamation.
Speaking during a church programme, Akpabio disclosed that he had multiple cases in court before deciding to reverse course.
“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name,” he said. “But I listened to the priest and suddenly realized he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them.”
He did not provide specific details about the cases affected by the decision. However, reports had consistently pointed to a prolonged legal clash between him and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In December 2025, Akpabio also filed a ₦200 billion civil suit against the senator at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
In that case, he accused her of making damaging claims that he sexually harassed her.
He is seeking massive financial compensation, public retractions, and nationwide apologies, arguing that the allegations harmed his image and exposed him to public ridicule.
