Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly set to run for 2027 Presidential Election on PDP Platform.

NaijaOnPoint Nigeria reports that Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to emerging reports.

This revelation follows growing political movements within the PDP aimed at drafting the Bayelsa-born leader back into the race for Nigeria’s highest office. A close associate of Jonathan told Vanguard on Wednesday that discussions with top party stakeholders and power brokers had progressed significantly and that Jonathan has allegedly agreed to contest.

The source claimed that Jonathan’s renewed ambition is driven by a desire to tackle the worsening poverty, economic hardship, and insecurity Nigerians have faced since the All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed power in 2015.

According to insider information, the former president has already held closed-door consultations with influential northern political figures, both within and outside the PDP. Notably, he is said to have met with former military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State, over the weekend where he reportedly briefed him on his intent to run a single-term presidency if elected in 2027.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the party’s efforts to bring Jonathan back to the political stage.

“Many Nigerians have come to realise the mistake they made in not re-electing Dr. Jonathan. They now acknowledge his achievements and are even apologising, pleading with him to return and rescue the country,” Abdullahi stated.

Jonathan, who led the country between 2010 and 2015, has remained politically relevant both within Nigeria and across Africa through his peacebuilding and democracy promotion efforts. His return to the presidential race could dramatically reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
