On Sunday, January 19, 2025, a terrible incident occurred at the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. Gunmen entered the church during a service and killed 54-year-old Prophet Yomi Adetula.

The attack happened around 10:30 am at the CCC Eagle Parish on Baggage Road in Idiroko. Witnesses said three men came into the church carrying a long double-barrel gun. They shot Prophet Adetula during the service and then used an axe to harm him further. The event left the congregation shocked and heartbroken.

Following the incident, The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola has confirmed the details in a statement. She said officers arrived at the scene and found Prophet Adetula’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

“His body was riddled with bullets, and his head had been harmed with an axe,” Odutola said.

The police explained that the attackers aimed their guns directly at the prophet and fired. Afterward, they fled the scene, heading toward the border area.

The police explained that they had started an investigation to find those responsible for the attack. They assured the public that the area was now calm and clues were being collected to help solve the case.

“We are working to uncover leads and will share updates as the investigation continues,” Odutola added.

The prophet’s body has been taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro.

This tragic event is one of several recent attacks on religious leaders in Nigeria. On December 30, 2024, Apostle Ranti Ige-Daniel, a Lagos-based pastor, was killed in Kogi State. The attackers shot him while abducting three other people from his vehicle.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of religious leaders and worshippers across the country. Many people are calling for better protection in places of worship.

The death of Prophet Yomi Adetula has left his community in mourning. As police continue their investigation, many are hoping that the attackers will be found and justice will be served.
