At a press conference on Friday, Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of KANSIEC, explained that the rescheduling aligns with a recent Supreme Court ruling that granted autonomy to local governments and conforms to the mutual agreement between the State and Federal Governments. He said the decision is also influenced by the October deadline for Local Government Financial Autonomy. Malumfashi emphasized the necessity of this adjustment, stating, “In recognition and conformity with the recent Supreme Court decision, the mutual agreement between State and Federal Government, and upon the expiration of the October deadline on Local Government Financial Autonomy, the Commission is compelled to reschedule the Local Government Election to October 26, 2024.” The revised timetable includes the following key dates: Malumfashi urged stakeholders to support the commission through this transition period and to cooperate fully with the new schedule.
