Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another collapse on Wednesday, plunging the country into darkness and disrupting power supply across major cities.
Data obtained from the Independent System Operator (ISO) revealed that power generation plummeted from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) at 11:00 am to a shocking 1.5MW by 12:00 pm on Wednesday, September 10.
Naijaonpoint reports that this is the latest in a string of nationwide grid failures under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Since May 2023, when Tinubu assumed office, the national grid has collapsed multiple times.
The most recent incident before Wednesday’s occurred in August 2025, when the grid collapsed twice within 48 hours, forcing distribution companies to issue emergency statements about total system outages.
The latest breakdown left homes, factories, and small businesses stranded without power. Many were forced to turn to petrol and diesel generators, further straining household and business budgets amid surging fuel costs.

9. Kano DisCo: 0 MW
10. PHarcourt DisCo: 0 MW
11. Yola DisCo: 0 MW
Total: 50 MW.
