Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has restated the spiritual and cultural supremacy of the Ooni of Ife, describing him as the highest-ranking monarch on Earth within the Lukumi Yoruba worldview.
Omokri made the declaration in response to a social media user while correcting the mislabeling of Yoruba as a tribe rather than an ethnic nationality.
He emphasized that the Lukumi Yoruba people are made up of several tribes including Yewa, Egba, Ekiti, Awori, Remo, and others, rather than being a single tribe themselves.
According to him, calling the Lukumi Yoruba a tribe undermines their global significance, especially considering their population and cultural achievements.
He pointed out that the Lukumi Yoruba people, estimated to be around 60 million globally, boast higher literacy levels than many European nations.
Omokri explained that the Ooni of Ife is regarded not just as a king but as a god-king in Yoruba cosmology, one of the 401 deities recognized in their spiritual tradition.
He stressed that every other king within the Lukumi heritage is spiritually subordinate to the Ooni, regardless of historical political influence.
The former aide also stated that all Lukumi people trace their origins to Ilé-Ifẹ̀, reinforcing the central role of the Ooni in their collective identity.
He urged Yoruba descendants to be specific about their tribal roots rather than broadly identifying as Yoruba, to preserve cultural clarity and pride.
Omokri concluded by asserting that the supreme Creator, referred to as Eledumare or Olodumare, is not exclusive to any nation or people, including Israel.
He argued that Lukumi spirituality recognizes many gods, but acknowledges only one supreme God, who predates all civilizations.
