Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has urged members of the Kogi State House of Assembly to give unconditional support to his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
In a video currently circulating on social media, Bello is seen instructing lawmakers to approve every proposal brought before them by the governor.
“As you are going in there now, go and cooperate with the Speaker and other members of the House of Assembly of Kogi State, and be part of those who support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. Are you getting my point? In everything that comes to the Assembly—everything, everything—even if you don’t understand,” Bello told the legislators.
Governor Ododo, Bello’s political godson, succeeded him in January 2024 after serving as Auditor-General for Local Governments in the state.
Meanwhile, Bello himself is facing multiple fraud and money laundering charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The former governor is accused of misappropriating over ₦80 billion in state funds through questionable transactions, including the acquisition of luxury properties in Abuja and Dubai as well as payments of foreign school fees through proxies.
