PDP is reportedly considering automatic 2027 Presidential ticket for Goodluck Jonathan.

NaijaOnPoint Nigeria reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly considering offering former President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, in a bold move to reposition the party and regain national dominance.

This development was revealed by PDP’s National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyengikuro, in an exclusive interview in Abuja, where he emphasized Jonathan’s enduring political influence and strategic importance to the party’s future.

“Is he not the best candidate for us at this moment? He is not just a former president; he is the national leader of the PDP now,” Woyengikuro said.

Consultations Ongoing with Jonathan and Associates

Woyengikuro confirmed that high-level consultations are ongoing between the party and Jonathan’s camp, aimed at bringing the former president back into mainstream leadership of the PDP.

“The PDP has been engaging Jonathan and his associates. It’s part of a larger strategy to reposition the party and salvage Nigeria from its current political and economic challenges,” he said.

Jonathan’s Return Could Reshape 2027 Race

Asked directly if the party would support an automatic ticket for Jonathan, Woyengikuro did not hold back:

“For me, that’s what I firmly stand for. Quote me anywhere — I want him to come. An automatic ticket for him, as it stands now. Because we must salvage both this party and the nation.”

Woyengikuro expressed confidence that Jonathan’s return would reshape the political landscape, especially with mounting calls for a Southern presidency in 2027.

Praise for Governor Seyi Makinde as Rising PDP Star

In the same breath, Woyengikuro hailed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as a vibrant leader capable of bridging Nigeria’s generational divide and leading a progressive Southern coalition.

“These are the two individuals I stand for: Goodluck Jonathan and Seyi Makinde. Both are key to the PDP’s future.”

Internal Reforms and 2027 Preparations Underway

The PDP is expected to ramp up internal consultations and political strategy sessions as it seeks to rebuild national appeal ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. With Jonathan potentially back in play, party insiders say the PDP could reposition itself as a unifying force in Nigeria’s polarized political climate.
