President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nigerian Law School’s first female Director-General, Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote.
According to a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four-year term.
Odusote, 54, is the current Deputy Director-General and head of the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School.
She will succeed Isa Hayatu Chiroma, the outgoing Director-General, whose eight-year tenure expires on January 9, 2026.
Odusote will become the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
She obtained her LL.B degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1998 AND holds an LL.M degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law.
Odusote later earned a PhD in law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer. Since then, she has served as head of the academic department, director of academics and head of campus. She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.
Odusote has published widely in local and international law journals and presented papers at several legal education conferences.
She has served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, Odusote will oversee the institution’s academic leadership, administrative management and strategic direction across all campuses.
She will also serve as the liaison between the law school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.
