At least seven women were shot dead in a chilling incident in Adamawa State after soldiers escorting the Brigade Commander of the 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Yola, reportedly opened fire on a group of protesters in Lamurde Local Government Area.

The tragic shooting occurred on Monday afternoon at Rigange junction, dramatically worsening tensions already heightened by earlier coordinated attacks by suspected Chobo-speaking militia on multiple communities in the area.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the victims were part of a group of women who had gathered to protest what they described as the unforgivably late arrival of security forces.

The protesters argued that the security teams only reached the affected villages hours after the militia attackers had finished their rampage and retreated unchallenged.

“The women were angry, frustrated, and tired of burying their own,” one local source stated. “They were demanding answers. Instead, what they got were bullets.”

A respected community leader, speaking with deep distress, confirmed the carnage, telling the platform that 12 women were shot, with seven dying instantly.

“Five others are battling for their lives at Numan General Hospital,” the leader confirmed.

The soldiers involved were reportedly escorting Brigade Commander Amechi Agwu of the 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Yola, when the deadly shooting occurred.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has not provided an official statement on the fatal incident.

Attempts to get comments from the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Apollonia Anele, were unsuccessful, as calls to her mobile line went unanswered and a text message seeking clarification received no response, Sahara Reporters stated.
