President Tinubu has gifted $100k each to D’Tigress players and conferred National Honours on them.
NaijaOnPoint Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 each, national honours, and houses following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu made the announcement on Monday during a reception held in honour of the team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Each player received a $100,000 cash gift, while members of the technical crew were awarded $50,000 each. In addition to the monetary rewards, the President also conferred national honours and pledged homes for all team members.
The gesture follows D’Tigress’ remarkable performance that saw them defeat Senegal in the finals to claim their fourth consecutive Afrobasket title, solidifying Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
Commending their hard work, Tinubu praised the team’s discipline, tenacity, and dedication, describing them as true ambassadors of Nigeria and inspiring symbols of excellence for the nation’s youth.
