President Tinubu has reconciled Wike and suspended Governor Fubara

Naijaonpoint Media reports that President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night brokered peace between the suspended governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a post on his official X account, after Tinubu had a closed-door meeting with Fubara, Wike and some lawmakers from Rivers State.

“President Bola Tinubu hosted a reconciliation meeting on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together all the figures in the Rivers State political crisis,” Onanuga wrote.

The lawmakers who attended the meeting in Abuja on Thursday were led by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.

Former Rivers State Governor, Wike and his successor, Fubara, had been at loggerheads with one another since 2023 due to political differences.

Tinubu met both leaders in Abuja back in December 2023, but the meeting failed to broker peace between the two men.

Failure to broker peace between Fubara and Wike led to a crisis, resulting in the polarisation of the Rivers’ legislature and the demolition of the state’s assembly complex.

Tinubu, in response to the political turmoil and the targeting of oil installations in Rivers, took a bold decision on March 18, 2025, declaring a state of emergency in Rivers, which led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the State House of Assembly.
