BREAKING: Tinubu’s Appointee Moves to Unseat Adeleke, Declares 2026 Ambition

An appointee of President Bola Tinubu, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has declared his intention to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke for the Osun governorship seat in the upcoming 2026 election.

Oyebamiji, who currently serves as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), made the declaration on Tuesday.

He got the support of top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former state officials, and youth groups.

Addressing a crowd of supporters at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office in Osogbo, Oyebamiji stated:

“After consulting with leaders of the party about my aspiration to become the governor of the State in 2026, I come here today to declare my intention.

“I have what it takes to be governor if my party, APC give me the guber ticket. I will not just contest, I will win by the support of everyone. We have seen how this state is mismanage under the current government, they have totally deviate which is not sitting well with the tenets of our party.

“I am presenting myself to rescue this state. I have what its takes to govern the state because of my experience in private and public sector. I have garner experience having served as Finance commissioner in the state.

“Part of the experience I have made President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Marine to push me for national assignment. I am hereby declaring my aspiration to become the candidate of the party and also win come 2026.”

Following the declaration, Oyebamiji led his supporters—including members of the Osun Progressives People’s Forum (OPPF) and various APC youth blocs—to the state party secretariat, where he met with party executives to formalize his bid.

Meanwhile, several political leaders endorsed Oyebamiji’s ambition. Former Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, speaking on behalf of the group, expressed confidence in Oyebamiji’s capacity to reclaim the state for the APC. Other prominent backers included former Commissioner for Information, Chief Sunday Akere; Water Resources Commissioner, Raheem Tadese; and loyalists of former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to seek re-election in 2026.
