Brian explained that Tichina, who has roots in Martinique and a strong sense of cultural and racial pride, made it clear that being open about their relationship was not an option. And while he cared about her, that secrecy slowly started tearing him down.
“I wanted to be open,” Brian said. “But I had to shrink myself to fit.”
