Bricklayer in court for allegedly assaulting woman

A 37-year-old bricklayer, Moses Bayewunmi, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly assaulting a woman, Mrs Omolara Akinrinoye

The defendant, whose address was not given is facing a two-count charge of assault and misdemeanour.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 5, around 6:00p.m at Akinrinwa Street in Okitipupa.

Omoyeigha said that the defendant assaulted the complaint by hitting her with stick during a misunderstanding.

He disclosed that the assault caused injuries to the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 517 and 355, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and show evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

He, however, adjourned the case until Sept. 30, for further hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
