Veteran DJ Tim Westwood has denied a string of serious sex offence charges as he appeared in court in London.
The former BBC Radio 1 and Capital Xtra star, 68, pleaded not guilty to accusations including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault linked to seven women.
The alleged incidents date back more than 30 years, spanning from 1983 to 2016, with some of the women said to have been teenagers at the time.
Westwood attended a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, where he entered not guilty pleas to four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault.
Back in 2022, a representative for the disgraced DJ issued the following statement: “Tim Westwood strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour. In a career that has spanned 40 years, there have never been any complaints made against him officially or unofficially.”
The rep added, “Tim Westwood strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing.”
Prosecutors told the court that several of the allegations relate to events said to have taken place while he was working at the BBC, including claims of indecent assault inside BBC studios in the mid-1990s.
Other allegations involve incidents across London and beyond, including Fulham, Vauxhall, Finchley and Stroud. One claim involves a 17-year-old girl in the early 1980s, while others involve women in their 20s more recently.
He was granted bail and is due to stand trial in January 2027.
Once a major figure in British hip hop radio, Westwood left Radio 1 in 2013 and continued broadcasting on Capital Xtra until 2022.
