Budget: We’ve not received Rivers assembly ultimatum- SSG

The Rivers State Government says that it has not received any official communication regarding the resolution of the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly following last Friday’s Supreme Court ruling.

On Monday, Speaker Martin Amaewhule sent a letter to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the House within 48 hours, in compliance with the 1999 Constitution.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, confirmed that the governor had not received the letter. He stated that the state government had only learned about the letter through social media.

The statement reads: “We came across a letter dated March 3, 2025, on social media, and would like to inform you that, as of close of business on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, neither the office of the Governor, the Deputy Governor’s office, nor the office of the Accountant-General has received the letter in question.”

Dr. Danagogo also mentioned that the state government has not yet been provided with a copy of the Supreme Court judgment, which would allow them to take appropriate action.

“We are currently in contact with our legal team, who are still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment. Once His Excellency receives the judgment, he will ensure its prompt implementation in the best interest of Rivers State,” he added.

He further reassured the public that Governor Fubara is committed to upholding the rule of law, reiterating statements made in his recent broadcast.

“His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, made it clear in his broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, that regardless of his personal views on the Supreme Court’s judgment, he remains committed to complying with and implementing its decisions in line with the rule of law and for the benefit of the people of Rivers State,” Dr. Danagogo concluded.
