A former presidential aide, Garba Shehu has debunked claims that ex-president Muhammadu Buhari was instrumental to the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president of Nigeria.
Shehu while speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today said the former presisent had no hand in the election that brought Tinubu to power.
He said the claim that Buhari ensured Tinubu’s victory must have been a figment of the imagination of some individuals or groups.
According to Shehu, Tinubu had after the 2023 presidential elections told him that Buhari allowed a free and fair election.
He said, “Someone must have seen that in their dream, it didn’t happen. I sat with President Bola Tinubu after his victory and he told me that President Buhari allowed me to win in a free and fair election.”
Both in the same party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu succeeded Buhari after emerging victorious in the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu contested the election alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party; Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party.
