Buhari not owner of seized FCT land – Garba Shehu

Buhari’s name appeared in a report yesterday that detailed the decision by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike to revoke land titles held by several high-profile individuals.

In response, Shehu clarified that the land in question is allocated to the “Muhammadu Buhari Foundation.”

He explained, “The Foundation was established by several well-meaning individuals who acted lawfully with the support of others. However, they encountered obstacles in the land department of the FCDA, which issued them an exorbitant bill for the certificate of occupancy—far higher than fees charged to similar organizations. While this may have been an error, it could also have been intentional, making the land revocation unsurprising.”

Shehu further stated that the former President does possess a plot of land registered in his name in Abuja.

“When he and his cabinet members were invited to fill out forms to obtain land during his presidency, he declined and returned the form unfilled, stating that he already owned a plot in the FCT and that those without should be prioritized. Therefore, he rejected the offer.”

He concluded by urging those discussing the legality of the reported seizure of Buhari’s land to verify their facts and avoid tarnishing the former President’s reputation.
