Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has expelled two students involved in a bullying incident captured on video that went viral.
The university’s management expelled two students out of five who were captured as bullies in the video, while the two others were exonerated and one was issued a warning.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Veronica Makinde, stated that no amount of pressure from the parents could influence the decision of the institution.
The video, which went viral on social media, showed a group of female students bullying another student.
The viral video shows one student identified as Opemiposi Precious Bolaji, an 18-year-old Mass Communication student, assaulting Miss Gloria Ajayi, another Mass Communication student, in a private hostel outside the university campus.
Following the video’s emergence, the university’s spokesperson, Temitope Akinbisoye, said all students involved in the video were summoned on Monday and were meted the appropriate punishment for their actions.
”In accordance with our institution’s policies and extant regulations, the students who were captured in the viral video appeared before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its emergency meeting held on Monday, May 6, 2024, for interrogations and appropriate recommendations, the report of which has been submitted to the university authorities,” Akinbisoye said in a statement.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor maintained that the security of students remains a priority for the university,.
She noted that the punishment would serve as deterent to other students to avoid any form of bullying.
