Nigeria international Nathan Tella played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 win over Augsburg at the BayArena on Saturday, ending a five-match run without a goal involvement, Footynaija.com reports.

Starting for the fourth successive game, Tella made an immediate impact by setting up Patrik Schick’s opener, showing sharp movement and composure to create the early breakthrough.

The Super Eagles forward thought he had added a goal of his own soon after, only for VAR to rule his finish out for offside.

Leverkusen sealed the points when Emiliano Buendía netted his second Bundesliga goal, ensuring Xabi Alonso’s side remained firmly in control.

Tella, who now has three assists in the Bundesliga this season — surpassing his tally of two from last term — was substituted in the 64th minute for Piero Hincapié after a lively performance.

The victory sees Bayer Leverkusen stay eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, who maintained their grip on top spot with a comfortable 3-0 win over Mainz.

While hopes of a late title charge are slim, Leverkusen will look to build momentum heading into their next Bundesliga fixture away to Freiburg on Sunday, May 4.
