Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy has shared his thoughts on how Fela Kuti’s music shaped his journey as an artiste.
Speaking during a chat with tennis legend Roger Federer, the Grammy winner explained that he grew up listening to all of Fela’s albums, which were introduced to him by his grandfather.
Naijaonpoint reports that Burna Boy revealed that while many expect him to point to a particular record as his biggest source of inspiration, none of Fela’s albums directly inspired him in that way.
Instead, he described Fela as a lasting influence whose presence runs through his work rather than being tied to a single record.
He said: “I got all Fela albums from my granddad, so every Fela album is a good album… Honestly, none [inspired me]. I promise you. Well, Fela was a big influence on me.”
In other news, Influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa has reacted to the flooding in Lagos, saying the situation shows that wealth and prime housing locations do not guarantee comfort.
In a post on his social media, Eniola said that even after working hard to buy a home in a desirable area, residents still find themselves trapped indoors once heavy rain begins because the surrounding streets quickly flood.
He wrote: “In this part of the world, money doesn’t guarantee comfort. You hustle hard, buy a house in what’s called a prime location, yet the moment it rains, you’re trapped indoors because everywhere outside is flooded.”
